Twenty Urban futures youths from Chongwe were trained in a five-day intensive training in sustainable organic agriculture and agribusiness at Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre, aimed at equipping them with practical skills to drive climate-resilient farming and economic empowerment.
The training held from 28th April 2025 to 2nd May 2025 are a key activity under the Urban Futures project, focuses on building critical competencies in sustainable organic agriculture, soil health management, composting, soil and water conservation, agroforestry, livestock integration, and organic agribusiness development. Participants will also covered post-harvest management and strategies for improving market access for organic products.
To enhance practical learning, the programme includes a field visit to a local farmer practicing sustainable organic agriculture, offering participants real-world insights into successful farming models.
Implemented by CUTS, Global Network Solutions , and Hivos Regional Office Southern Africa , the Urban Futures Chongwe project is a five-year initiative designed to create sustainable livelihoods and resilient urban communities. It aims to empower young people in Chongwe with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead in climate-smart agriculture and agribusiness.
